NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the reopening of the westbound ramps onto U.S. 90B/Pontchartrain Expressway from Stadium Drive, North and South Claiborne avenues effective Friday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. The ramps have been closed since February 2015 for work on the $3.6 million Interstate 10 improvements project, in Orleans Parish.

The project to reconfigure a portion of U.S. 90B/Pontchartrain Expressway has a few minor tasks remaining, but is expected to be completed by February 2016. Contractor James Construction Group, LLC has already installed signs, and removed and replaced pavement markings to accommodate the restriping of lakebound Pontchartrain Expressway, in the vicinity of the U.S. 90 East and I-10 East exit ramps, near the Superdome.

This project restored the third lane on U.S. 90B east by extending the acceleration lane on the ramp, so that the lane could be re-established for lakebound traffic on the interstate. Drivers entering U.S. 90B from the Superdome/Claiborne ramps will have to merge into the traffic. It is very important that motorists pay attention to the new striping and signage to safely merge.

A message board has been installed on the ramp to advise motorists of the merge condition. Additionally, flashing lights have been installed on the merge warning sign, on the ramp.

Further planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through this and other highway work zones. Also, be alert for the presence of construction workers and equipment.
