LA 21 Widening (Bootlegger to 11th) – State Project No. H.001340

COVINGTON, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen La. 21 from Bootlegger Road to 11th Avenue in St. Tammany Parish, a $16.8 million capacity improvement project.

This week’s activities include a drainage crew installing the last segment of subsurface drainage on the west side of La. 21 near Bootlegger. Dirt crews are waiting for dry weather to continue dirt work on the west side of La. 21 near 8th Avenue. They will continue working northward. The road base will have to be installed and a paving crew will move in. Due to the inclement winter months, this portion of the operation is moving slowly.

Other work performed includes the following (photos attached):

• Bridge crew working on pouring sidewalks and bridge rail for the southbound bridge.
o Bridge crew finished pouring the southbound bridge deck at the end of December.
• Dirt work operations north of the river towards 10th Avenue.
o Prepping subgrade and embankment for the new southbound roadway.
• Drainage crew continues installing drainage structures on the west side of La. 21 through entire project limits.

The current completion timeframe is between December 2016 and January 2017, which is subject to change pending weather, change orders and any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with the contractor to maintain steady progress and complete construction as efficiently as possible.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
