DOTD announces updated lane closure at US 90B HOV in Orleans Parish

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an updated lane closure of the U.S. 90B HOV (Crescent City Connection Bridge) Main Bridge Span. Starting Wednesday, Nov. 18, the eastbound and westbound outside U.S. 90B HOV lane will be closed, from 7:30 a.m. through 7 p.m., daily, until Dec. 31, 2015.

The contractor is placing temporary traffic control devices and installing rigging for blasting and painting containment systems in preparation for a nearly $18 million project that will clean, repaint and perform bridge repairs.

In early 2016, concrete barriers will be placed prior to the start of construction activity. The contractor’s equipment will be staged on the closed outside HOV lane until the project is complete, which is estimated for December 2016.

The inside HOV lane will remain open to commuters, and emergency and permit vehicles will have access to this section of U.S. 90B HOV.

Motorists should expect delays and plan routes accordingly. The alternate routes are the U.S. 90B non-HOV lanes or Huey P. Long Bridge.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through this and other highway work zones. Also, be alert for the presence of construction workers and equipment.

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region on which they are seeking information.
