DOTD announces lane reconfiguration on US 90B/Pontchartrain Expressway in Orleans Parish

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the reconfiguration of a portion of U.S. 90B/Pontchartrain Expressway as part of a $3.6 million Interstate 10 improvements project, in Orleans Parish. Effective Tuesday, Nov. 17, the area around the Superdome will have an additional lane for westbound travel.

Contractor James Construction Group, LLC will be installing signs, and removing and replacing pavement markings to accommodate the restriping of lakebound Pontchartrain Expressway, in the vicinity of the U.S. 90 East and I-10 East exit ramps, near the Superdome. It is very important that motorists pay attention to the new striping and signing as the lane reconfiguration will go into effect in time for the Tuesday morning peak hour commute.

As a reminder, the project’s current closure schedule is as follows:

• Nov. 16 – The Loyola Avenue entrance ramp and Claiborne Avenue exit ramp shall be closed beginning at 7:30 p.m.; the two (2) rightmost lanes shall be closed beginning at 9:15 p.m. and speed limit shall be reduced to 50 MPH. All lanes and ramps shall reopen to traffic at 5:15 a.m. on Nov. 17.
• Nov. 17 thru Nov. 19 - Alternating single lane closure shall begin at 9:15 p.m. and last until 5:15 a.m., each following morning.
• Nov. 20 - Alternating single lane closure shall begin at 10:45 p.m. and last until 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 21.

Motorists should expect delays and plan routes accordingly. The alternate route is O’Keefe Avenue exit to Poydras Street to I-10 westbound entrance ramp. During the closures, emergency vehicles will have access.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through this and other highway work zones. Also, be alert for the presence of construction workers and equipment.
