BROUSSARD, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that Albertson Parkway in the eastbound direction, between U.S. 90 and La. 182 , will be closed to motorists on Thursday, May 21, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The left turn lane on Albertson Parkway, between U.S. 90 and La. 182, will also be closed to traffic in the westbound direction.

These closures are necessary to allow crews to lay concrete drainage pipe underneath the roadway. All construction activities are weather dependent, and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.

The detour for this work includes La. 182 and Celebrity Drive.

As part of the Geaux South program, current work underway is related to the $57.1 million design-build project that involves widening U.S 90 to six-lanes from Albertson Parkway to north of the Ambassador Caffery intersection. The project will also construct an overpass along U.S. 90 above Albertson Parkway, a new railroad overpass and modify the adjacent frontage roads. Work on the project is slated for completion in mid-2017.

The Geaux South program is a $3 billion multi-year construction initiative to convert approximately 160 miles of the current U.S. 90 corridor to Interstate 49 South. When completed, I-49 will extend from the current terminus at I-10 in Lafayette to the West Bank Expressway in New Orleans.

The Geaux South program will support economic growth, improve access, reduce traffic congestion, and improve connectivity throughout the state’s transportation system. Completion of the work will also improve travel times for commuters, enhance safety, and facilitate evacuation efforts in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster.
