Pile driving work set to begin for widening of the Ward’s Creek Bridge
Bridge widening is part of a multi-phased effort to relieve congestion on Essen Lane

Baton Rouge, La. — Construction crews are scheduled to begin driving piles Thursday, April 16 for the widening of the Ward’s Creek Bridge on Essen Lane. The work is part of a multi-phased, joint effort of DOTD and the City of Baton Rouge that includes widening Essen Lane to six lanes with a continuous, two-way center turn lane between I-10 and Perkins Road and improvements to the I-10/Essen Lane interchange.

Construction crews will drive piles during daytime hours (6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) beginning Thursday, April 16. The pile driving will require approximately six weeks to complete for the east side of the bridge. Work to relocate the utilities along the Essen Lane corridor and widen the roadway will continue until late 2018.

Minimal traffic impacts are anticipated during the pile driving work though adjacent properties may notice increased noise. All work is weather-dependent and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
