LA 73 Project update
Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 10:43:00 AM
Work on the La. 73 widening project has experienced delays due to weather, utility conflicts and additional unforeseen sewer work not included in the original plans.

Additional days have been added to the contract to compensate for delays caused by issues that were outside of the contractor’s control. The contractor is not facing liquidated damages at this time because they are still within their allotted contract days. If charged, the liquidated dollar figure per contract day is $3,000.

We will continue to work with the contractor in expediting the construction process and resolving any issues that arise as efficiently as possible.

Work on the $15.5 million project involves widening La. 73 from two to three lanes by adding a center turn lane between I-10 and U.S. 61.

The project is designed to improve safety and help decrease congestion on this heavily traveled section of La. 73. Approximately 15,000 drivers use this section of La. 73 each day. The estimated completion date for the La. 73 widening project is the second quarter of 2015.
