US 190: LA 22-Lonesome Road Widening

MANDEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen U.S. Highway 190 from La. 22 to Lonesome Road in St. Tammany Parish, an $11.3 million capacity improvement project.

This week, work* performed includes the following.

• Addition of blue safety cones to indicate access points for retail centers in the area of the project. (Photos attached)
• Crews were excavating in preparation of receiving asphaltic base course on US 190 westbound from La. 3228 westward to the Starbucks driveway.
o Crews were also excavating the southbound lane of La. 3228
• Bridge crews formed and poured decks for the eastbound bridge.
• Drainage crews installed subsurface drainage structures and other miscellaneous drainage tie-ins at multiple locations throughout job.

*Asphaltic base course was scheduled for today, but is postponed until further notice due to rain


Past weeks work performed included the following.

• Asphalt base course and binder placed from just west of the Meadowbrook/US 190 intersection to La. 3228 on the new westbound lanes of US 190. It was also placed on the northbound lane of La. 3228 (Asbury).
• Traffic shifted from using the existing southbound lanes of La. 3228 (Asbury) to the new northbound lanes of La. 3228. Traffic will remain traveling in a northbound only configuration.
o Crews installed a wedge of aggregate to safely transition motorists from the existing lanes of US 190 to the new lanes of northbound La. 3228.
• A road crew excavated for the westbound roadway base course from La. 3228 westward towards the Causeway Service Road (beginning of project limits)
• Asphalt subcontractor was onsite fine blading and priming the westbound roadway base course from just east of Meadowbrook to La. 3228.
• Bridge crews poured caps for the eastbound bridge.
• Concrete crews casted the tops of catch basins, poured driveways and installed curb and gutter, and other curb transitions, on the westbound lanes throughout the project.



Upcoming work to be performed includes the following.

• Continue reconstruction of La. 3228
• Continue reconstruction of US 190 from La. 3228 to Causeway Service Road (westbound)
• Complete drainage east of new bridge
• Continue curb and gutter, driveway and sidewalk work on project
• James Construction to continue working on eastbound bridge over Chinchuba Creek

As a reminder, the current completion timeframe is November 2014, which is subject to change pending weather, change orders and any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with direction from DOTD Headquarters to assist the contractor in expediting the construction process and resolving any issues that arise as efficiently as possible.
