US 190: LA 22-Lonesome Road Widening

MANDEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen U.S. Highway 190 from La. 22 to Lonesome Road in St. Tammany Parish, an $11.3 million capacity improvement project.

This week, work performed includes the following.

• Bridge crews drove all piles for the eastbound bridge and have begun pouring caps.
• Drainage crew is installing trunk line drainage for the eastbound roadway from Chinchuba Creek, eastward, to Lonesome Road.
• Road closure of southbound lane of La. 3228 (Asbury) from US 190/La. 3228/St. Joseph intersection to approximately 500 feet north on La. 3228 is now in place for start of reconstruction activities.
• Concrete crews are pouring driveways to businesses along the westbound roadway as well as installing curb and gutter from Meadowbrook to La. 3228 along the westbound roadway.

Last week, work performed included the following.

• Curb and gutter was installed on the eastbound roadway from Wisteria Drive to Lonesome Road.
o Crew relocated to begin prep and installation of curb and gutter on the westbound roadway between Meadowbrook Drive and La. 3228.
• Drainage crew installed subsurface drainage in the median of US 190 between Chinchuba Creek and Chinchuba Cemetery Road.
• The bridge subcontractor removed the existing box culvert prior to continuation of pile driving for the new eastbound bridge.
• Road crew installed Class II Base Course on the westbound roadway near La. 3228.

Upcoming work* to be performed includes the following.

• Asphalt will be installed on the new lanes of Asbury Drive.
• Traffic will be swapped onto Asbury, allowing northbound traffic to utilize the new lanes.
o Following the switch, the remaining lanes of Asbury will be reconstructed.
• In late July or early August, asphalt will be installed on 190 westbound from Meadowbrook through Asbury Drive as well as the remaining lane of Asbury Drive.
o Asbury will be opened to both north and southbound traffic.

As a reminder, the current completion timeframe is November 2014, which is subject to change pending weather, change orders and any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with direction from DOTD Headquarters to assist the contractor in expediting the construction process and resolving any issues that arise as efficiently as possible.
