Currently the contractor is cutting soil cement for the road foundation that is going under for the new roadway. The area of focus is on the east side from the Prairieville fire station to the St. John Catholic church. We will be installing asphalt base course over this same area hopefully next week.
This work will allow us to begin the shift of traffic from the old roadway to the new lanes on the outside. When the traffic is placed on the outside lanes, the old roadway in the center will be removed and built back up to the same structure and grade as the outer lanes. Then traffic will be shifted back into the center of the roadway again while the catch basins, on the outer edge, are adjusted to their final grades.
Curbs and gutters will also be installed about the same time as the catch basin adjustments and then the work of putting down the final road surface will begin.
