The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Developmentā€™s Paths to Progress announces the following lane closures and detour scheduled for tomorrow, April 29.

The temporary closures of Newton Street eastbound lanes from Teche Street to L B Landry/Whitney Avenue are scheduled to start on Tuesday, April 29 and last four to six weeks. The eastbound traffic on Newton Street will be detoured to Opelousas Avenue.

The temporary closures will facilitate the operation of road repairs including pavement removal and replacement.  Also, the installation of ADA-compliant ramps, curb repair and pavement patchwork is included in this project. Construction of Newton Street began earlier this month and is scheduled to reach completion in June 2014.

All planned construction activities may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen events. Paths to Progress appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution. Also, please be alert for the presence of construction workers and equipment.

Paths to Progress is a transportation improvement program to rehabilitate, restore and enhance more than 60 roadway segments in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. With a combined investment of over $90 million, Paths to Progress is a collaborative effort between the Federal Highway Administration, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, New Orleans Regional Planning Commission and City of New Orleans.
