MANDEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen U.S. Highway 190 from La. 22 to Lonesome Road in St. Tammany Parish, an $11.3 million capacity improvement project.

Crews continue working on the concrete curb and gutter, and have now addressed the intersection at U.S. 190 and Cherry Creek. The contractor has performed curb and gutter work from Lonesome Road to the driveway of the Pelican Athletics Club and Cherry Creek to Lonesome, and poured concrete for the construction of the retaining wall along the Cherry Creek subdivision.

Other work performed includes the following.

• Installation of roadway base material near the intersection of U.S. 190 and Meadowbrook
• Concrete was installed for the new turn lane, last week, and both exit lanes from Meadowbrook were reopened with the original traffic signal configuration.

Asphalt paving operations are scheduled to begin in the next couple of weeks and continue through early May, at U.S. 190 and Meadowbrook. Once complete, the existing two-way traffic will be switched to the westbound lanes to allow for demolition of the existing bridge, and to begin work on the new eastbound bridge.

Recently, the contractor’s personnel and DOTD traffic engineers addressed the signal at Meadowbrook to adjust and recalibrate for the current temporary traffic configuration as the camera zones were not properly detecting the through and right turning traffic, due to vehicles not landing in the designated spot to trigger cameras.

The current completion date is late summer, early fall 2014; however, this is subject to change pending weather, change orders and any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with direction from DOTD Headquarters to assist the contractor in expediting the construction process and resolving any issues that arise as efficiently as possible.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
