Louisiana schools to participate in International Walk to School Day
Thursday, September 02, 2010 at 2:38:47 PM

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Safe Routes to School Program will host a statewide competition for all Louisiana elementary and middle schools, kindergarten through eighth grade, in conjunction with International Walk to School Day on October 6, 2010. Schools are encouraged to participate in events of their own choosing, which may be small or large in scale.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three schools for participation in International Walk to School Day events. Participation numbers will be based on the percentage of student population, rather than total number of students, so that smaller schools have an equal opportunity to win.

The deadline for entry is September 30, 2010. In order to be eligible for entry into the contest, each school must do the following:

1. Register your event at http://www.walktoschool.org/register/index.cfm.

2. Email the following information to shalanda.cole@la.gov. Once your email has been received, you will receive the official sign-in sheet and instructions for submitting your results.

  • School name
  • Grade level
  • School address
  • School phone number
  • School principal contact information
  • Name and contact information for event contact person, if different from principal
  • Total school enrollment
  • Submit sign-in sheets and pictures to Safe Routes to School Program.
