Causeway Blvd. Interchange
Project Update

November 30, 2009

Work began on Phase 1 of the new interchange on April 6, 2009 and will be complete in Winter 2010.

Phase 2 began November 11, 2009 and will be complete in Summer 2012.

Work continues constructing concrete footings, columns, and decks for the new North Causeway Boulevard to I-10 west on-ramp and on the new I-10 West to North Causeway exit ramp. This work includes the installation of sand and stone foundation for the ground level portion and pile driving and concrete foundations for the bridge portion of the ramp.

Along the ground-level portion of North Causeway Boulevard, construction of the right side of the new concrete roadway is underway and sidewalks, curbs, and driveways will follow.  Once this right lane is constructed, traffic will be shifted to the new lane while the new bridge is constructed over the existing left lane.

Work has begun on the new I-10 West off-ramp to Southbound Causeway including installation of sand and stone foundation for the new roadway.

Construction of two temporary asphalt ramps is also underway to maintain traffic from I-10 West to Southbound Causeway as well as Southbound Causeway to I-10 West.

Installation of drainage pipes, concrete barrier wall, curb, fence, etc. throughout the project is also underway.

CURRENT LANE AND RAMP CLOSURES

Two through lanes of Ground level Northbound Causeway will remain open during the daytime for the remainder of 2009.  There will be periodic lane closures after 10 pm for construction of the concrete roadway.

The North Causeway exit to Veterans Boulevard exit remains closed while crews construct the future off-ramp from North Causeway to Veterans, the future westbound off-ramp from I-10 to North Causeway and portions of the future South Causeway fly-over on-ramp to I-10 East.

North Causeway traffic is re-directed over Veterans where they u-turn to return on South Causeway to Veterans. Additionally, I-10 westbound to North Causeway traffic will be redirected to ground level Causeway where they will re-enter Causeway north of Veterans.

There will be periodic closures of I-10 off-ramps after 10 pm for installation of drainage structures.

Motorists should expect delays, and we ask that you proceed through the project with caution. Be on the lookout for flaggers and construction traffic entering and exiting the highway, side streets and driveways.

Traffic entering and exiting some streets, driveways, businesses and subdivisions will be temporarily inconvenienced while construction continues. If your business or residence has two entrances/exits, one entrance/exit may be closed temporarily during construction operations, but the other entrance will remain open allowing access to your business or residence. If your business has one entrance/exit, we will maintain traffic in and out of the business or residence while crews work across the driveway.

All above mentioned work schedules are subject to change due to adverse weather. Please see public notices for exact times, dates and cancellations.
