BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold a public meeting for phase II of the I-10/Causeway interchange improvement project on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Parish Eastbank Council Chambers in the second floor of the Yenni Building, located at 1221 Elmwood Park Boulevard in Harahan.

The meeting is being held to allow the public to learn more about the project and to sign-up to receive periodic e-mail updates on the project’s progression. Representatives from DOTD, Burk-Kleinpeter Inc. and James Construction Group LLC will be in attendance to provide information on the project and answer any questions. An update on phase I will also be given.

Work on the $51 million phase II project involves constructing five new dedicated ramps at the I-10/Causeway interchange. The project will improve efficiency and safety at this heavily traveled interchange. Approximately 178,000 drivers use the interchange each day. Construction will begin Nov. 9 and will last until summer 2012. The contractor is James Construction Group LLC of Baton Rouge.

The new dedicated ramps will include:

o An elevated on-ramp for drivers traveling south on Causeway from the Northshore and North Metairie to I-10 westbound that will tie into the existing ground-level I-10 westbound on-ramp

o An elevated flyover on-ramp for drivers traveling south on Causeway from the Northshore and North Metairie to I-10 eastbound

o An elevated ramp for drivers traveling south on Causeway from Veterans to I-10 eastbound that will tie into the existing I-10 eastbound on-ramp

o A ground-level ramp for drivers traveling south on Causeway from Veterans to I-10 westbound

o Existing I-10 westbound off-ramp to southbound Causeway will be shifted slightly to make room for the new ramps

To get to the council public meeting, take I-10 east to the Clearview Parkway South (exit 226). Merge onto Clearview Parkway. Travel 2.5 miles down Clearview and take a right at Citrus Boulevard. Travel down Citrus Boulevard and follow the curve around Home Depot. The Yenni Building will be the second building on the left. Parking will be available in front of the building.
