Perkins Road Widening project plan change for northbound Bluebonnet traffic

DOTD Secretary William Ankner and the Perkins Road project manager met with our traffic and design sections to develop a plan change that will include an additional left-turn for northbound Bluebonnet Boulevard at Perkins Road. Having the intersection already under construction, DOTD saw an opportunity to address the need for an additional left-turn lane, which was brought up by residents at the last Perkins Road public meeting in June 2009.

DOTD heard your concerns and began working on a solution. The plan change will cost just over $106,000 and may add a little time to the completion of the entire project, but it should not extend the time needed to complete the intersection work.

When the intersection is complete, northbound traffic approaching Perkins will have two left-turn lanes, a through lane and a shared through/right-turn lane. The two left-turn lanes will extend back to the Capital Court entrance. Capital Court will be a right-in, right-out only at its connection with Bluebonnet. Because Capital Court will become a right-in, right-out only, southbound Bluebonnet traffic will not be allowed to turn left onto this road.
