MANDEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the start of an $8.7 million project to resurface nearly three miles of U.S. 190 in Mandeville, La. (St. Tammany Parish) from Interstate 12 to La. 22. The project, designed to improve operator efficiency and preserve the existing roadway, will add a northbound auxiliary lane between I-12 and Fairway Drive and Fairway Drive and La. 22, and a southbound auxiliary lane between I-12 and Fairway Drive.

Weather permitting, the contractor, Barriere Construction Co., LLC, will begin work tonight. There will be alternating, intermittent closures of the inside (left) or the outside (right) lanes of eastbound and westbound US 190 from I-12 (mile post 248) to La. 22 (mile post 250) nightly through Friday morning, August 24, 2013, while construction crews perform asphalt patching, cold planning, and asphalt paving on the roadway. The contractor may work between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., barring any inclement weather.

During the nightly construction, eastbound motorists may take I-12 to La. 59, south on La. 59 to

U.S. 190 east. Westbound motorists may take La. 59 to I-12, west on I-12 to U.S. 190 west. One lane of traffic, in each direction, will remain open at all times. By law, oversized loads are not allowed to travel at night.

Emergency vehicles will have access. The project is slated for completion by February 2014.
