Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 10:36:34 AM

This information is to provide you with a brief update regarding the La. 511 widening and resurfacing project. The improvement project will widen the eastbound and westbound lanes of La. 511 between Fern Avenue and Creswell Road and construct a center turn lane.  In addition, the project will resurface the existing roadway.  The relocation of water lines is still ongoing and work is being performed by the City of Shreveport.  AEP SWEPCO will also be on site moving their utility lines throughout the next couple of months.

This week, DOTD’s contractor, FJ Burnell began construction activities and has been mobilizing equipment and preparing a staging area at the Bayou Pierre Bridge (Fern Avenue and East 70th Street).   Beginning tomorrow, July 18th, crews will be placing concrete barriers at Bayou Pierre Bridge, at which time the bridge will be restricted to only two lanes – one in each direction.  The bridge widening will begin immediately following the installation of the barriers.

Construction is expected to take approximately one year to complete, and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
