NEW ORLEANS – The Algiers/Canal Street ferry re-opened today after being closed since July 23 when a barge sank in the Mississippi River spilling oil.

The Coast Guard closed the ferry because it would have interfered with the clean-up operation. While the ferry was closed the Coast Guard used the landing as the base of its clean-up operation.

The ferry resumes its normal operating schedule of 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
