Further emphasizing the need for repair, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today an early intermittent closure of the Judge Seeber Bridge, also known as the Claiborne Bridge, due to mechanical failure.

The bridge had been scheduled for a full seven-week closure, beginning this Saturday, April 2. In light of the current mechanical issues, it will now be operated manually by DOTD personnel on a four hour schedule to accommodate marine navigation openings, until further notice. As of today, the openings are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m., 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Motorists should expect extended delays of up to 40 minutes during each opening, due to the manual operation, and – when possible – detour via the St. Claude Bridge. A special marine opening will be allowed at 9:00 p.m. tonight.
