Original notification (8/23):

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that beginning Monday, August 30, 2021, construction will begin on a safety and resurfacing project on LA 378 (Sampson Street) in Calcasieu Parish.

The $597,496 project will mill and overlay LA 378 from the I-10 Service Road to the north approach of the Kansas City Southern crossing. At the Union Pacific crossing, a concrete median will be installed to discourage motorists from driving around the gate arms when activated.

Single lane closures will occur intermittently in both directions during non-peak hours for the duration of the project. Lane closures will occur during the following times.
  • Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 pm.
  • Saturdays from 7 p.m. to Sundays at 4:30 a.m.
  • Sundays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The entire project is anticipated to be complete by November 2021, weather permitting.

DOTD reminds motorists to always practice train safety and never stop on a train track. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
