BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana is the fourth state to receive national recognition for forming a public-private partnership dedicated to improving the highway system.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), Federal Highway Administration and Associated General Contractors are the chairs of the Louisiana Partnership for Highway Quality. The group recently received a Tier 1 accreditation from the National Partnership for Highway Quality (NPHQ) for its work in forming this partnership.
“I hope this partnership will help us build a better highway system,” said DOTD Secretary William D. Ankner, Ph.D. “By bringing the public and private sectors together, we can be more efficient and responsive to the public’s transportation needs.”
LPHQ is a voluntary, active group of professionals that meets regularly to improve highways, roads and bridges in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsive way.
LPHQ’s charter states that the partnership was formed in order to “guide and lead the Louisiana highway transportation program in the 21st century with the knowledge and understanding that this state’s highway system is critical to this state’s economic prosperity and that of the nation.”
Louisiana is one of only 11 states who have formed a state quality partnership and is the fourth of those states to receive a Tier 1 accreditation.
The requirements for receiving the Tier 1 accreditation included:
- Addressing responsibilities for improvement of quality.
- Developing a mission statement, goals and policies.
- Having an ongoing program to identify and recognize the outstanding achievements of those who are leaders in the quality journey.
- Outlining and sharing innovations and best practices with NPHQ.
