Lane closure update for Perkins Road/Bluebonnet Boulevard intersection
Monday, June 04, 2007 at 12:00:00 AM
BATON ROUGE, La. – Drivers on Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard can expect delays during the day until June 11 while contractors lay drainage pipes.

The right lane on Perkins eastbound, one of the two left-turn lanes on Bluebonnet Boulevard southbound, and a portion of the outside through-lane on Perkins westbound will remain closed at the intersection while crews lay drainage pipe. The lanes will remain closed during daylight hours and will be open during nighttime hours until June 11.

“These closures are necessary to connect additional drainage pipe for the newly constructed manhole at the Perkins and Bluebonnet intersection,” said DOTD Project Engineer Mike Vosburg. “We are trying to expedite this project to minimize the inconvenience to drivers. However, because the work is so close to the lanes of traffic, we have to do this work during daylight hours for safety reasons.”

Through traffic on Bluebonnet and Perkins will be maintained but with delays.  Drivers should use caution while traveling through the area.  The construction work and subsequent lane closures are subject to postponement in the event of adverse weather.

Throughout the project, the DOTD Customer Service Center will provide e-mail updates on the project’s progress as well as a call center for questions and concerns regarding the project. To ask questions, or to sign up for e-mail updates, contact the DOTD Customer Service Center at 1-877-4LA-DOTD (1-877-452-3683) or e-mail customerservice@dotd.la.gov.

The finished roadway will widen Perkins Road from two lanes to five lanes – similar to the existing Perkins Road between Essen Lane and Acadian Thruway. There will be two through lanes in each direction, a center turn-lane throughout the length of the project and an additional turn-lane added at Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard.
