BATON ROUGE, La.  – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has scheduled the letting of the second I-10 Twin Span Bridge contract for Nov. 15.

The department chose this date to allow contractors ample time to prepare bid estimates for the I-10 Twin Span Bridge as well as Phase III of the Huey P. Long Bridge Widening project, which is scheduled to be let Oct. 25.

The letting will be held at 10 a.m. at DOTD’s headquarters building, located at 1201 Capitol Access Road in Baton Rouge.

The second contract for the I-10 Twin Span Bridge project, which will replace the Twin Span Bridge between New Orleans and Slidell that was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, involves constructing the high-rise portion of the bridge.

Contractors can access the project plans for the second I-10 Twin Span Bridge contract at www9.dotd.louisiana.gov/falcon/websuite_logon2.htm, under project number 450-17-0028. This requires visitors to log in; contractors can request a username and password by visiting www.dotd.louisiana.gov/programs_grants/la1/idrequest.asp.

DOTD has already awarded a contract for $379 million to Boh Bros. Construction Co. for the I-10 Twin Span Bridge project’s first contract, which involves building the level section of the bridge as well as the eastbound approaches on each end. The first contract is scheduled to be complete by December 2009.

The new Twin Span Bridge is the largest public works project in the history of Louisiana. Its construction is being funded entirely by the Federal Highway Administration and was designed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
