BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development considered bids totaling over $44 million at its Sept. 14 public bid opening, according to Governor Kathleen Blanco and DOTD Secretary Johnny B. Bradberry.

With a bid of $11,472,086.47, Gilchrist Construction Co. LLC, Alexandria, was the apparent low bidder on the state’s most expensive job, a project in Rapides and Grant parishes calling for grading, drainage structures, lime treatment, class II base course, superpave asphaltic concrete pavement, Portland cement concrete pavement, traffic signalization and related work on U.S. 167 from the junction of La. 3225 to Bentley.
