BATON ROUGE – Regular ferry service resumed Thursday in New Roads/St. Francisville and Plaquemine, the Department of Transportation and Development announced.

Ferry service was canceled Sept. 2, at four sites – New Roads/St. Francisville; Plaquemine; White Castle; and Reserve – so that the ferries could be redeployed into the New Orleans area to help with evacuation and the transport of emergency material and personnel between Algiers Point and Chalmette Slip.

Emergency transport operations are continuing at Lower Algiers, but the two ferries for New Roads and Plaquemine were able to return to home base to resume regular service. No timetable is available on when White Castle and Reserve can resume regular operations. 

The Cameron ferry has been unaffected during the emergency, as are the crossings at Melville, Duty, and Monkey Island, all of which use tugs and barges.
