DOTD announces closures in Hammond area due to severe winter weather

HAMMOND, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the following roadway closures, in respective parishes, due to icy road conditions. Motorists are urged to stay off the roads whenever possible and use extra caution if traveling during hazardous weather conditions.

Livingston Parish
• Juban Road Overpass
• La. 441 Overpass at I-12
• Pete’s Highway Overpass
• I-12 East and West between Range to Amite River (Left Lane Blocked)

St. Helena/Tangipahoa Parishes
• La.10 from the East Feliciana Parish line to the Tangipahoa Parish line, at the intersection of La. 1044, just east of I-55

St. John the Baptist Parish
• I-10 East on the Bonne Carrie Spillway, from Laplace to Kenner
• La. 3127 from La. 3160 to I-310
• Veteran Memorial/Gramercy Bridge) on La. 3213 North and South

St. John/Tangipahoa Parishes
• I-55, elevated section in each direction, from I-10/Laplace to U.S. 51/Ponchatoula (alternate route is the U.S. 51 Service/Low Road)

Tangipahoa Parish
• I-55 Highrise Bridge in both directions

The weather is changing rapidly and so are the road conditions, closures and openings. DOTD continues to monitor weather reports, as well as area roadways, and will advise when it is safe to reopen.

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region on which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Travelers can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information Web site at www.511la.org.

Additionally, motorists can utilize the new "Way to Geaux" application to receive real-time, around the clock travel alerts. The hands-free, eyes-free “smart phone” application can be downloaded on any iPhone or Android device by visiting either the iTunes App Store, or Google Play.
