Louisiana Historic Bridge Inventory Update

1971-1985

We’d like your help to identify historic bridges!

Several years ago, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), in coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), commissioned a statewide study of historic bridges that resulted in development of processes to manage and preserve these valued resources. In September 2015 the LADOTD, FHWA, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), and SHPO executed a Programmatic Agreement (PA) for managing historic bridges in Louisiana that included a stipulation for future evaluation of bridges built after 1970.

In accordance with the PA, LADOTD is initiating a process to evaluate bridges built from 1971-1985. Do you know of any bridges in your parish or community built from 1971-1985 that are especially unique, have unique features, or are important for their engineering or association with a historic event(s)? Can you think of any bridges from 1971 - 1985 that are listed or determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places or located in or adjacent to an historic district? If so, please tell us about the bridge(s) by completing as much information on this form as possible. We would appreciate your response no later than April 6, 2020.

Please provide specific location information (if possible), historical information, and a short explanation for why you think they might be important. We welcome copies of newspaper articles, historical information, and photos that you may have. To share your information with us, simply complete the following questions and send to the email or address listed below.
