DOTD announces remaining closures in Hammond area

HAMMOND, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the following remaining closures, in respective parishes, due to icy road conditions.

DOTD continues to stress to motorists to stay off the roads – particularly at night – whenever possible. Ice still has the potential to develop on interstates, highways and surface streets and can present roadway challenges as temperatures are forecasted to hover around freezing in many areas.

Motorists should limit any activity to emergency travel only and use extra caution if driving during hazardous weather conditions.

 Livingston Parish

  • La. 63 at I-12 overpass

 St. Helena/Tangipahoa Parishes

  • La.10 from the East Feliciana Parish line to the Tangipahoa Parish line (at the intersection of La. 1044, just east of I-55)

 St. John the Baptist Parish

  • I-10 East and West (from the Bonnet Carre Spillway to the St. James parish line)
  • I-55 in both directions (alternate route is the U.S. 51 Service/Low Road)
  • Veteran Memorial/Gramercy Bridge on La. 3213 North and South

Tangipahoa Parish

  • I-55 in both directions from St. John the Baptist parish line to U.S. 51B in Ponchatoula(alternate route is the U.S. 51 Service/Low Road)

DOTD continues to monitor weather reports, as well as area roadways, and will advise when it is safe to reopen.

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region on which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Travelers can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information Web site at www.511la.org.

Additionally, motorists can utilize the new "Way to Geaux" application to receive real-time, around the clock travel alerts. The hands-free, eyes-free “smart phone” application can be downloaded on any iPhone or Android device by visiting either the iTunes App Store, or Google Play.
