New Orleans Rail Gateway Program

700-92-0021 / Federal Aid Project No. DE-9208 (500)) Jefferson Highway Rail Crossing Relocation Project

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and the Federal Railroad Administration, in coordination with the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission and the railroads operating in the New Orleans metropolitan area will host an open house public scoping meeting for the Jefferson Highway Rail Crossing Relocation Project.

The purpose of the open house is to present an overview of the Jefferson Highway Rail Crossing Relocation Project and the study process for preparing an Environmental Assessment to evaluate improvements to the at-grade highway-rail crossings located along Jefferson Highway (US 90) in Jefferson Parish, between the Ochsner Health Foundation Hospital and Monticello Avenue. The study will evaluate combining two at-grade highway-rail crossings, less than 700 feet apart, between the Hospital and Monticello Avenue into a single crossing. Grade separating the combined crossing with a roadway overpass will also be evaluated.

All interested parties are encouraged to attend the open house, view a looping presentation and exhibits, and ask questions to learn about the project. Comments received at the open house and written comments post-marked by March 18, 2020 will become part of the meeting record.
