LA 70: Mississippi River Bridge – St. James Parish
Beginning Tuesday, July 2, westbound traffic will be shifted to the inside lane of the Sunshine Bridge while crews continue maintenance work on the bridge. In order to accomplish this shift, the westbound lanes will have a temporary intermittent closures to allow crews to adjust the concrete barriers. This maintenance project includes replacing the finger joints of the approach spans, restoring the approach girder splicing, and repairs to the top chord safety handrails.
The Sunshine Bridge westbound on-ramp from LA 44 – River Road will be closed during the duration of this work. A signed detour will be in place and will have motorists traveling on LA 44 East to turn onto LA 22 East and continue to LA 70 West to the bridge.
The two eastbound lanes will remain open for travel and the inside westbound lane will be the only lane open while crews continue maintenance work. There are no weight restrictions in either directions, however, the westbound lane will be restricted to 10-feet in width.
