Slidell, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that beginning on November 5 there will be highway closures associated with construction on the U.S. 11 Bridge between Slidell and New Orleans.

This $28.36 million project includes concrete and structural repairs, grid deck replacement, painting, installation of a new fender system, and electrical and mechanical rehabilitation.

During construction, there will be multiple restrictions placed on vehicle and marine vessels while repairing the bridge. The closures associated with this project are:

• Highway traffic- Nov. 5 thru Nov. 16 and Nov. 27 thru Dec. 10
• Highway and Marine traffic- Dec. 11 thru Dec. 21

During the Nov. 27 closure, marine vessels over 70 feet in width will be prohibited from traveling through the bridge. The advised alternate route is the Inner Harbor Navigational Canal to the Intercostal Waterway.

There will be periodic highway and marine closures throughout the duration of the project. Motorists who frequently travel across U.S. 11 should continue to monitor DOTD’s website for closure information.

The contractor, American Bridge Co., began construction in late August 2018 and is estimated to be completed summer 2020.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
