DOTD announces partial opening of new I-49/I-220 ramps in Caddo Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the opening of several new interstate ramps as part of the I-49 Segment K2 project currently under construction in Shreveport, Caddo Parish.

This $142 million project – along with the adjacent Segment J and Segment K1 projects totaling $86.4 million - closes another gap in the I-49 corridor in northwest Louisiana and creates a brand new interstate interchange with I-220.

The following ramps are now open to thru traffic:

- The westbound ramp from I-220 to northbound I-49
- The westbound ramp to I-220 from southbound I-49
- The southbound on-ramp to I-49 from LA 1 (North Market St.)
- The northbound I-49 exit onto LA 3194 (Martin Luther King Blvd.)

The I-49 flyover ramps are still under construction, and are not yet open to traffic. DOTD reminds motorists to please drive with caution through construction areas, and be on the lookout for crews and their equipment.

As part of this project, the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-220 within the project limits are being completely reconstructed. The westbound lanes are complete, and work is currently progressing to rebuild the eastbound lanes.

The estimated completion for the remainder of the project is late Summer/early Fall 2018, with progress dependent on weather conditions.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near an active work zone.
