The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), advises the public that on Monday, August 19, 2013 construction will begin on LA 491 in Natchitoches Parish. This work will begin at the intersection of LA 495 and LA 491 then proceed approximately 7 miles ending at the intersection of LA 491 and Red River Levee Road.

The intent of this project is to blade aside 12” of existing roadway surfacing and base, place a layer of geotextile fabric and geo-grid. After replacing the 12” of material the top 8 and ½ inches will be stabilized with in-place soil cement. The roadway will then be overlayed with two layers of Superpave Asphaltic Concrete. Associated work includes placing aggregate surface course on shoulders, replacing one cross drain pipe, pavement striping, and replacing existing mailboxes.

The contractor will be required to maintain thru traffic at all times, but periodic lane closures and delays can be expected. The public is advised to remain alert to construction signs and changing roadway conditions.

The project was awarded to the low bidder, W.E. McDonald and Son, LLC. in the amount of $2,869,601.59. The work associated with this project should take approximately 5 months to complete.

Permit/Detour section
