Airline Highway emergency repairs now complete
BATON ROUGE, La.- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that US 61 (Airline Highway) southbound at Greenwell Springs Road in East Baton Rouge Parish is now open for through traffic. This portion of the roadway was closed on Wednesday, Dec. 20, due emergency drainage repairs that needed to be completed in order to ensure the safety of motorists.
The repairs were scheduled to be completed on Friday, Dec. 22. However, crews were able to work continuously throughout the day and night to remove the deteriorated pipe and install a new one to open the roadway earlier than anticipated. The new pipe was installed by slip lining, an innovative construction method which reduced the overall closure time required to make these repairs.
