I-12- EMERGENCY MULTI-PARISH ROAD CLOSURE

EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE – Interstate 12 is closed in both directions from Airline Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish to Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish due to high water. I-12 eastbound is now open from I-55 to U.S. 190 in St. Tammany Parish. I-12 westbound traffic is being diverted to northbound and southbound I-55. Tolls are no longer temporarily suspended.

Alternate routes:

• I-12 westbound should take I-55 north to I-20

• I-12 eastbound should take US 61 south to I-10 east

• If possible travelers should take I-20 to travel through Louisiana.

Travelers can find information regarding road closures at www.511la.org or by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region where they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).

During unfavorable weather conditions, motorists should drive using the following safety tips:

• Do not drive unless you must.
• Drive slowly and carefully.
• Avoid driving into standing or running water.
• Avoid driving while distracted.
• Avoid using cruise control when visibility is low or road surfaces are wet.
• Always allow for extra driving time.
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
• Have your headlights on when using your windshield wipers.
