April 4, 2024: The Chalmette Ferry has resumed operations, according to New Orleans RTA.
DOTD engineers made on-site repairs to allow vehicular traffic to resume usage of the elevated roadway.
St. Bernard Parish, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the immediate closure of the Chalmette Paris Rd. Bridge (at Chalmette Ferry). This afternoon, a DOTD inspection found structural deficiencies resulting in unsafe driving conditions.
The bridge is closed until further notice; however, DOTD crews are already surveying the damage.
The bridge is located on Paris Rd. (LA 47) between St. Bernard Hwy. and the Chalmette Ferry.
