DOTD announces project to improve LA 3227/LA 157 intersection in Bossier Parish

SHREVEPORT – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the start of a $4.1 million project to provide the first phase of a number of improvements to the LA 3227 @ LA 157 intersection in Haughton, Bossier Parish.

Preliminary work will begin soon in the form of clearing and grubbing ahead of the utility relocation period, which is anticipated to last 5-6 weeks in order for SWEPCO to move utility poles that are located within the project limits.

Additionally, asphalt patching work on LA 157 is anticipated to begin the week of November 13, 2023, so intermittent lane closures will necessary. Traffic will be allowed through the construction zone via flagging operations.

Motorists should be prepared for possible delays and slow-moving traffic while this work is underway.

This project includes widening the busy LA 157 corridor from two to five lanes from approximately Ragan Lane to LA 3227 near the Pilot truck stop. The additional lanes will be added to the east side of LA 157.

The purpose of this first phase is to set the stage for the relocation of LA 3227 to allow for much improved traffic flow through the area, which is home to a number of new developments and is located just off the interchange with I-20.

The second phase, which will include the construction of the new LA 3227 on a different alignment, will be done in a future project.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in Spring 2024, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
