Baton Rouge- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that crews are barricading locations in Baton Rouge out of an abundance of caution. Interstate 110 will be closed from Capitol Access to N. 22. The underpasses at Chippewa St near Scenic and Acadian Thruway near I-10 under the KCS Railway will also be closed. These areas are prone to flooding and with high winds predicted, DOTD staff closed these locations for safety reasons.

With the large amount of rain and the unpredictable nature of this storm, roads would become flooded and may not be barricaded. Remember to turn around, don’t drown. With the treacherous weather conditions changing rapidly, DOTD would like to remind people to shelter in place and not drive.

DOTD would like to remind motorists that it is unlawful to drive around a road-closed barricade for any reason. This is dangerous for both motorists and any DOTD workers who are on the streets trying to clear the roadways. These barricades are put in place to protect motorists from dangerous situations on the road, whether that be debris, high water, or any potentially unsafe situation.

Motorists should not be driving. If someone must drive, they are encouraged to check the status of road conditions prior to traveling by using the following resources for the latest information regarding road conditions:

  • Motorists can check www.511la.org or dial 511 to remain up-to-date on the latest closures. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).
