The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is looking for public feedback for a proposed project to improve safety along US 165 at Lonewa Road in the Town of Sterlington, Ouachita Parish.
The purpose of the project is to help reduce the potential for crashes along this corridor by closing a full access median at the intersection of US 165 and Lonewa Road. DOTD would then construct directional U-turn crossovers with turn lanes just north and south of the intersection.
A history of crashes at this intersection indicates that this type of safety enhancement could potentially reduce any future crashes by as much as 31 percent.
The design of the directional U-turn opening allows the flow of traffic to be maintained with less delay. The removal of the full access median eliminates left turn and right angle crashes resulting in greatly improved safety.
A virtual public meeting will begin on Monday, November 1, 2021. The public is highly encouraged to view the materials and provide feedback or ask questions during the comment period, which will end on Monday, November 15, 2021.
Please take time to carefully read and review the PowerPoint and conceptual layout of the proposed improvements. All feedback will be taken into consideration as part of the project development process.
At this time, the tentative letting date for the project is March 2023, though letting dates can and often do change based on a number of factors.
