This J-turn was opened to the public on February 27, 2012. Work began on January 9, 2012. This is part of a larger $3.5 million project along U.S. 167 from 0.6 miles north of the LA 14 Bypass to the Lafayette Parish line. This project resurfaced a 9.3 mile stretch of US 167 that runs between Abbeville and Maurice.

"Roadway infrastructure is a key component in reducing traffic fatalities. The installation of this new J-Turn in Vermilion Parish will help to reduce the number of crashes occurring along this heavily traversed roadway."
