The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) is proposing a project to close the I-10 Washington Street/Lorri Burgess Avenue eastbound exit ramp in East Baton Rouge Parish. The scope of the project is to close the exit ramp by way of placing concrete barriers in front of the exit and changing the signing and pavement markings such that the existing exit-only lane will merge into I-10 mainline. The purpose of this project is to reduce conflict points and weaving movements on I-10 and I-110 which increases congestion.
The following modifications will occur on the surface streets due to the closure of the exit ramp:
-
Kentucky Street will be made into a right-in, right-out. Left turns from Kentucky street to Lorri Burgess Avenue westbound will not be allowed.
-
Lorri Burgess Avenue will be reduced to one lane in the westbound direction.
-
The traffic signal at the base of the off-ramp will be removed. A new stop sign will be installed at Lorri Burgess and Braddock Street.
LA DOTD will be soliciting input from the nearby community in the upcoming months and welcomes community feedback.
