DOTD to renew lane markings and reflectors on I-12 between Covington and Slidell
Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 11:49:57 AM
ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will restripe I-12 and replace raised pavement reflectors between Covington and Slidell beginning Sunday, November 8. Fresh lane markings help drivers stay safely within their lanes throughout the day. At night, the reflectors catch the light from headlights, making the lanes easier to follow, especially along stretches without highway lighting.

The $775,000 project covers 21 miles of I-12 in both directions between LA 21 near Covington and Airport Road near Slidell. It is part of DOTD’s ongoing work to renew pavement markings and reflectors on major roadways across the area.

Average daily traffic on this stretch ranges from 70,000 to 100,000 vehicles, depending on the location. I-12 serves Northshore commuters and connects Baton Rouge and Slidell. Its connections to I-10 and I-59 give businesses a route to move goods across the Gulf Coast and to markets farther north.

Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures in both directions Sunday through Thursday nights, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The first closures are scheduled to begin Sunday, November 8, at 8 p.m., and the last are scheduled to end Friday, November 20, at 6 a.m., weather permitting.

At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times, and emergency vehicles will have access. Drivers may experience moderate delays and should allow extra travel time and watch for crews and equipment.
