Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 3:09:05 PM
St. Landry Parish, LA — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction recently began on a $430,168.05 scour repair project on LA 29 over Bayou Cocodrie in St. Landry Parish. The project will address a 0.1-mile section of the roadway and bridge area.

As part of the project, crews will perform clearing and grubbing, install geotextile fabric and riprap, replace bridge joint material, seal joints, and complete related repairs.

By addressing scour and repairing bridge joints, this project will help protect the bridge infrastructure, reduce the potential for further erosion-related damage, and support the long-term reliability of this transportation route.

Motorists Benefits
For motorists, maintaining the bridge helps preserve a safe and dependable connection for daily commutes, commercial traffic, and other travelers who rely on LA 29.

Construction is expected to take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., weather permitting. The project is estimated to be completed in winter 2026.

Traffic Impacts
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on LA 29 over Bayou Cocodrie throughout the project, which may cause delays. The roadway will remain open to regular traffic through the work zone, with a maximum lane restriction of 12 feet for oversized loads traveling through the area.

The intermittent closures are necessary to allow crews to complete bridge joint repairs and related work. Emergency vehicles will have access to the area but may encounter delays.

Safety Reminder
DOTD appreciates the public’s patience and reminds motorists to drive with caution through the work zone, reduce speeds as appropriate, and remain alert for construction crews and equipment.
