Road Closure Announced For LA 83 at Bayou Patout Bridge in Iberia Parish
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 9:49:08 AM
IBERIA PARISH, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that LA 83 at the Bayou Patout Bridge in Iberia Parish will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning Monday, October 26, 2026, through February 2027, weather permitting.

The closure is necessary to allow construction crews to reconstruct the roadway near the Bayou Patout Bridge as part of a $2.7M asphalt overlay project. This work is intended to improve roadway conditions, enhance the long-term reliability of the route, and provide a safer, more dependable travel experience for motorists once construction is complete.

The improvements are also expected to benefit surrounding industries and businesses that rely on the roadway to support daily operations, employee commutes, and the movement of goods and services. While the temporary closure may require adjustments to travel routes and schedules, the completed work will help support continued transportation access and regional economic activity.

A signed detour will direct motorists along LA 85, US 90, and LA 318. Drivers, including commercial motorists, are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detour signs, and allow additional travel time when traveling in the area.

Emergency vehicles will be permitted access through the closure but may experience delays.

DOTD appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this important work is underway. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously, obey posted signage, and remain alert for construction workers and equipment throughout the project.
