DOTD requests residents remove items from right-of-way for LA 3154/Hickory Avenue project (Jefferson Parish)

JEFFERSON PARISH – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is requesting that residents and property owners along the future LA 3154/Hickory Avenue corridor between LA 48/Jefferson Highway and Mounes Street remove personal property, materials, and other items located within the DOTD right-of-way by November 20, 2026.

The request comes as DOTD prepares to move forward with construction of a new roadway connection in the area. The project will extend Dickory Avenue from Mounes Street to LA 48. Once completed, the new roadway will become Hickory Avenue and the new LA 3154. The existing Hickory Avenue will be transferred to Jefferson Parish.

DOTD has already acquired the right-of-way needed for construction and has been working to relocate utilities and complete other preparations ahead of the project. The project is currently scheduled to go out to bid in October 2026. Construction will begin following the letting, contract award and other required pre-construction steps.

This advance notice is intended to give residents and property owners time to identify and remove any items located within the project right-of-way before construction begins. DOTD is also working with local officials to help share the information with the community.

After November 20, DOTD will review the corridor and address any remaining items within the right-of-way in accordance with department procedures.

Additional information regarding construction and traffic impacts will be announced as the project advances.
