LA 30 roundabout project moves into next phase of construction

GONZALES, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is providing an update on the LA 30 roundabout project at I-10 in Ascension Parish as construction moves into its final stages.
The next phase will require temporary traffic changes as crews remove remaining concrete and continue construction of the roundabouts at the I-10 ramps.
Beginning Friday, October 2, the left-turn lane from westbound LA 30 to the I-10 eastbound on-ramp will temporarily close. Motorists needing to access I-10 eastbound will continue to the roundabout at Robert Wilson/St. Landry Avenue, make a U-turn and travel eastbound on LA 30 to the I-10 eastbound on-ramp.
Beginning Monday, October 12, the left-turn lane from eastbound LA 30 to I-10 westbound will temporarily close. The existing eastbound through lane will be converted to a temporary left-turn lane to maintain access to I-10 westbound, while the right through lane will remain open.
Both temporary traffic configurations are expected to remain in place through Friday, November 13.
Following this phase, the roundabouts are anticipated to be functional and open to traffic in late November or early December, weather permitting. Additional work will continue after the roundabouts become operational, with overall project completion anticipated for late Janaury.
The project includes three roundabouts along LA 30 at the I-10 eastbound and westbound ramps and St. Landry Avenue/Robert Wilson Road. Once complete, the improvements will provide a more efficient and safe traffic flow through the interchange and improve connectivity along the LA 30 corridor.
LA 30 plays an important role in the local and regional transportation network. In addition to the commercial areas surrounding I-10, the highway is a significant industrial and freight corridor connecting the interstate with major industrial areas along the Mississippi River and in the Geismar area. Construction has been completed in phases to allow crews to rebuild the interchange while maintaining access to I-10, surrounding businesses and destinations throughout the corridor.
DOTD recognizes the challenges the ongoing construction has created for residents, businesses and motorists and appreciates the public’s continued patience as the project approaches completion.
Motorists should expect delays, particularly during peak travel times, and are encouraged to allow additional travel time. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and remain alert for construction crews, equipment and changing traffic patterns.
