Construction begins on $8.9 million LA 1 resurfacing project in Lafourche Parish

THIBODAUX — Construction began this week on an $8.9 million project to repair and resurface approximately 14.6 miles of LA 1 between LA 182/Willow Street Bridge and St. Patrick Bridge in Lafourche Parish, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces.
The roadway is used by approximately 12,000 vehicles daily.
Crews will repair areas of damaged pavement, remove the existing asphalt surface and install a new driving surface.
This project was made possible through LTIF 2.0, a major transportation investment approved by the Louisiana Legislature to advance highway preservation and other infrastructure improvements across the state.
Initial work includes daytime tree trimming, followed by asphalt patching at night, weather permitting.
Most asphalt patching, milling and paving is expected to take place at night, although daytime roadway work may occur when necessary. Scheduled daytime work hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., while nighttime work hours are from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Motorists should expect alternating lane closures as construction moves along the corridor. St. Patrick Street, Canal Boulevard and LA 182 are expected to be the intersections most affected by the work.
Work is beginning at the Thibodaux end of the project to reduce potential conflicts with the City of Thibodaux’s Canal Street Bridge replacement project, which is expected to begin in January 2027.
The LA 1 project is expected to be completed in March 2027.
Motorists should use caution in the work zone, allow additional travel time and watch for workers and equipment.
