Upcoming La. 97 Preservation Project to Extend Roadway Life, Improve Ride for Motorists

ACADIA PARISH, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin construction Wednesday, Sept. 30, on a $10.4 million preservation project on La. 97 from La. 98 to La. 368 in Acadia Parish. The project is part of DOTD’s ongoing effort to preserve existing infrastructure, extend the life of the roadway and provide a smoother, more reliable route for the motorists who use La. 97 each day.
The project will address the existing roadway base and place a new asphalt surface to help protect the investment already made in La. 97. The work will strengthen the roadway, improve the driving surface and help reduce the need for more frequent repairs in the future.
The state-funded project, awarded to Prairie Contractors, includes stabilizing the roadway base and placing a new asphalt overlay. La. 97 will be closed within the project limits during construction to allow crews to complete the work safely and efficiently. The closure is planned to be lifted on weekends, and the roadway will reopen to traffic during that time, weather and construction schedule permitting.
The project is estimated to be complete in summer 2027.
