DOTD announces project to replace pavement striping & markings on section of I-49 in Caddo Parish
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a $772,806 project to remove and replace the roadway striping along a stretch of I-49 in north Shreveport in Caddo Parish.
The project will provide pavement marking improvements on I-49 from I-220 in Shreveport to the LA 173 (Dixie Blanchard Rd) interchange (11 miles of striping repairs), which includes all travel lanes in both directions, along with the on and off-ramps.
Work is scheduled to begin on the night of Sunday, August 23, 2026, with striping operations on the project taking place primarily at night from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., to reduce the inconvenience to the traveling public.
Motorists should expect slow-moving operations and some lane/shoulder closures to allow the contractor to progress safely and efficiently. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, and pay attention to advance warning signage alerting them to an upcoming construction zone.
The overall project is anticipated to be complete in late Fall 2026, noting that striping operations are particularly weather dependent.
These types of projects are vital to ensuring the striping remains visible and useful to motorists. These highway markings provide essential visual guidance, help regulate traffic flow, and enhance safety for drivers. Roadway striping defines travel lanes, shoulders, and indicate areas such as passing and turning lanes, among many other purposes.
The contract was awarded to Stripe-A-Zone, LLC.
